Executive Summary

It is very important that the IT Solutions creates a business requirements document to ensure that the company understands everything that Diamond Video Rentals needs. This Business requirements document will be used to help give the better performance when the project needs more focus on the important things. This business requirements document will highlight all the requirements that Diamond Video rentals needs.

The population of the town has grown steadily in the last two years and another video store opened in the town six months ago, which, whilst not as old or as big as Diamond Video Rentals, has grown rapidly in the short period. Diamond Video Rentals has asked IT Solutions to help provide a service that will improve the Diamond Video Rentals performance.

Company Description

Diamond Video Rentals is a small business that has been operating in a large country town for five years. Its main business is to rent videos to its members. There are approximately 5000 members and 10,000 videos in stock. In the early years the business grew steadily however, in the last year, growth in members and rentals has not occurred.

Problem Definition

The business requires an improved IT system to make the organisation more effective. it needs to improve sales, and profitability, and can do this with better software and IT systems.

Problem Statement

The population of the town has grown steadily in the last two years and another video store opened in the town six months ago, which, whilst not as old or as big as Diamond Video Rentals, has grown rapidly in the short period.

John Vandrine is concerned that the business has not grown in line with the town’s growth and patronage seems to be static or even in a slight decline. Also, customer complaints seem to be increasing. With the advent of the new video store, John is keen to increase the competitiveness of his business.

John has asked IT Solutions to perform an investigation into the benefits of computerising the day-to-day business of the video store.
