Task 2: Presentation Delivery

Performance objective

The purpose of this task is to provide you an opportunity to demonstrate your skills to deliver a presentation including communication skills to transfer a message, engage the audience, and effectively use presentation aids.

Your assessor will assess your presentation skills using the criteria listed below.

Assessment description

You are required to deliver the presentation you prepare during Task B in front of your class. The duration of the presentation must be 15 – 20 minutes. Your assessor will observe you and assess your presentation skills using the criteria of this unit of competency.

You are required to collect and analyse feedback on your presentation.

Finally, you will need to write a reflection about your performance and propose improvements for future presentations.

Procedure

  • Prepare the venue to make sure it is safe (e.g. no trip hazards).
  • Deliver the presentation following your presentation plan.
  • Collect feedback using the evaluation method/s you have chosen.
  • Based on feedback received, write a reflection that includes:
  • what was effective
  • what was ineffective
  • strategies for improvement
  • discussion of feedback from audience.
  • Specifications

    You must:

  • deliver a15-20-minute presentation
  • submit a copy of any handouts or other material used (e.g. printouts of PowerPoint slides)
  • submit a copy of any surveys or questionnaires used to collect feedback – refer to Assessment Task 1(Appendix 2)
  • submit a brief written reflection on the feedback collected, due no later than one week after the presentation delivery – refer to Part B of procedures.
  • Your assessor will be looking to confirm your skills in:

  • Using listening and questioning techniques to gather information required to develop or modify presentations
  • Taking responsibility for planning, sequencing and prioritising tasks and own workload to achieve outcome
  • Interpreting audience reactions and changing words or nonverbal features accordingly
  • Recognising the need to alter personal communication style in response to the needs or expectations of others
  • Providing opportunities for participants to seek clarification on central ideas and concepts, and adjusting the presentation to meet participant needs and preferences
  • Seeking and discussing reactions to the presentation from participants or from key personnel involved in the presentation
  • Monitoring nonverbal and verbal communication of participants to promote attainment of presentation outcomes
  • Selecting and using appropriate conventions and protocols to encourage interaction or to present information
  • Explaining and discussing desired outcomes of the presentation with the target audience
  • Using presentation aids, materials and examples to support target audience understanding of key concepts and central ideas
