    Analysis

The main issue in this case is from industrial relations. The union demands to give more welfare to employees, such as, overtime ban and overt measures of conflict (absenteeism) etc. However, the company needs the way to improve efficiency and productivity, this is due to the rising costs and low market prices, the companys profit space is extruded. Over the past couple of years, Australia has less competitive advantage, the key reason is from the labor costs. Especially from the employees who employed by high-risk industry, they have to live in an environment of FIFO, and leaving their family and friends, so they think they should get higher wages and good working conditions (Edwards, 2013).

Therefore, the conflict is higher than other mines. In addition, the good surrounding environment and falling productivity is also a problem, it cause increase the cost of the coal company.

Traditionally, employers are more willing to take unitarist, they think there should be no conflict of interest between employees and employees. Also they think organization as a whole, should be cooperation for mutual benefit, therefore the union is considered to be unnecessary and even regarded as trouble. Employers usually require their employees to follow their rules and requirements, and…
