Individual Assessment

Summary of Servicescape

According to , the servicescape of a facility or venue is the way that physical surroundings such as walls, shapes, colours, human resource, etc. all have an impact of the customers’ cognitive and affective satisfaction of the service. This will further impact on the customers’ desire to stay or their intention to revisit the facility or venue. Therefore the way the servicescape is managed and maintained is incredibly important for the business to attract and retain more customers, making the business more successful.

At Bangkok (@Bangkok) is an Authentic Thai Cuisine located in Haymarket, Sydney CBD. The owners of the restaurant felt that Sydney lacked in authentic Thai tasting restaurants, . The owners also recognised the growing Thai community in Sydney. Thus the opportunity for an authentic and traditional Thai restaurant had great potential in Sydney. The restaurant was established on the foundation of Thai taste, for Thai people.

Facility Exterior Design

The exterior of At Bangkok is extremely unique. Before you enter the building, you will be able to see the kitchen through an exterior glass window. This is something that is uncommon for other restaurants because the kitchen will usually not be visible. This exterior design will attract many customers as you can see how the food is made and effort that is put into every dish.

The colour theme of the contrasting black and gold through the entire restaurant works significantly well. The patterns displayed on the exterior of the restaurant resemble a more contemporary style of art which depicts the idea of a new Thai Restaurant in the heart of Thai town. If you were to isolate yourself and only look at the exterior of the restaurant you will feel a significant resemblance to Bangkok, hence the name of the restaurant “At Bangkok”.

Before you enter the restaurant you can view the menu. This menu has both Thai language for the Thai community and also English language for its local customers.

At Bangkok Restaurant also has an on-premises Licence which allows the restaurant to serve alcohol until late (2am weeknights and 4am on Weekends). The restaurant also has a strict rule that any BYO wine will incur a $5 corkage fee per person. Parking

Being in the Sydney CBD, parking is not necessary for the customers. If the customers do require parking, there are areas outside of the building which provide parking with hourly rates. These rates are not cheap and avoiding these rates will most likely result in a fine because city rangers constantly check. This will most likely repel some customers, however it is only a small percentage of customers and every competitor in the area will experience this setback.

There is also a parking lot for the building, which is useful when the street parking is full. The prices for this parking lot are similar to the street parking; however you can feel safer with your vehicle undercover.

Landscape

The landscape surrounding At Bangkok is something that would be expected in any metropolitan area. Buildings and skyscrapers satisfying the landscape and lighting from all the buildings, making the restaurant feel somewhat small but still influential. Being in Thai town, the Restaurant offers the Thai people away from their homeland, the experience that they could once, only experience in Bangkok. The landscape has a significant resemblance to the city of Bangkok, making the experience for the customers feel more nostalgic.

Surrounding Environment

As a restaurant in a busy shopping complex, the surrounding environment does not necessarily help the restaurants image and experience. This is because opposite to At Bangkok, is a very open and visible Korean restaurant. Though there is very little interference and trouble between these two restaurants, the feel of being At Bangkok may be hindered by the Korean signage and sounds, music and people from the Korean restaurant.

There is also a very obstructive stairway right in front of the restaurant which people would usually think degrades the appearance of the restaurant; however At Bangkok Restaurant has successfully and effectively made the staircase look like a contemporary artwork. This was done through a great design of making a wall with planks of wood going parallel to the incline of the stairs.

Facility Interior Design

Equipment

The equipment used in the At Bangkok Restaurant is designed to have a smooth and even affect throughout the whole restaurant. Meaning that all equipment used by At Bangkok Restaurant help make the restaurant feel organised and comfortable. One set of equipment that is uncommon for restaurants is a stage for live band music. After 11pm each night, At Bangkok offers live band music for all customers to enjoy. The music will be a mix of Thai classics and popular western songs.

The employees of At Bangkok are given a name tag which they wear to ensure that the customers can identify the waitresses. They will also be…
